Work Experience Prior to joining Salford University

More often than not you will be advised to acquire some work experience after completing your undergraduate studies, in order to be sure about your future career prospects and what you would like to further your education on. After graduation, I was lucky enough to gain some experience working in the marketing and advertising industry in Kenya, specifically representing two major banks, Barclays Bank of Kenya and Equity Bank, two of the most fierce competitors back home. They serve various levels of clientele and it was a wonderful experience working for them both as I got to learn to see things from the corporate perspective and advertising agency as well.

After doing some research I discovered that Salford University in Manchester was one of the schools that offered some of the best business courses including Marketing, Digital Marketing, etc which were of interest to me. I was also impressed by the fact that Salford University had won a couple of awards mainly in the business sector including the Times Higher Education Business School of the year.

Creative marketing and advertising is something that I have always been keen on learning more about and it's one area that I'm extremely passionate about. You learn something new every day, it's so exciting and I love to contribute my ideas as well, I mean some of the things I see out here really fascinate me and that's what makes me really respect Creative Directors and all the other supportive staff who work with them, as it is not an easy task to be seen, heard, and recognised out there, and most importantly leave a long lasting impression in people's heads and hearts.

I then made the decision to leave my job to travel to pursue a Master's in Marketing in Salford, in order to boost my learning and get recognised by employers in the marketing and advertising industry. Salford offers extensive marketing courses and strengthens student's understanding in theory, and in the practical world as well.

How my time at Salford Business School prepares me for a career in Marketing and Advertising

Relevant courses/modules. The courses have provided me with the knowledge required to succeed in today's demanding global economy. Most multinationals are globalising, this was emphasised in our Marketing international business module. In order for companies to grow and succeed, it is imperative to foster strong relationships with the staff, contractors and subsequently customers. The management of interpersonal relationships is important for the development of a marketing relationship.
Real life campaigns and scenarios. Putting marketing and advertising theory into real practise with exciting projects and getting involved with projects in marketing firms.
Working in groups. one of the best things about Salford is that they encourage team work and combining each others strengths in order to achieve a similar goal, just like you would do in an actual firm or organisation.

I am still on this exciting journey towards my dream career and I have no doubt that my time in Salford will equip me with the skills necessary in understanding consumer behaviour and developing marketing strategies to satisfy their needs.
